Harold M. Pitman founded The Pitman Company in Chicago, Illinois in 1907. The firm originally was a one-man shop manufacturing and selling steel dyes and copper plates to engravers. Soon, Pitman began providing chemical solutions and other tools for engraving trade. Pitman would later expand to include products for the entire printing industry. This commitment to providing next generation technologies to the printing industry is ingrained with the fabric of the organization.
In 2007 Pitman, celebrated its 100th anniversary, by this time Pitman was recognized as the “best graphics arts dealer in the world”! Not resting on its history, the Pitman company aggressively invested in new market segments
On August 11, 2010, Pitman was acquired by Agfa Graphics a global manufacturer of integrated solutions for the graphics communications industry. Backed by the global leader, the Pitman Company will be able to continue extend its reach into new markets and will be able to offer clients the solutions to address their business concerns.
Pitman will continue to provide products developed and manufactured by world-class companies. The company, diverse product offering represents a broad range of solutions for its Commercial Printing, Wide Format, Pressroom, Digital Imaging, Packaging, Newspaper, and Technical Design Divisions.
